Local residential construction started off the New Year with a 9 percent jump in new-home permits in January, according to statistics compiled by the Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City (HBA). The organization tracked a seasonally adjusted total of 220 single-family homes permitted last month, up from a revised 198 units for December.
FHA Allows First-Time Buyers to Use Tax Credit at Closing
During an address to the NAHB Board of Directors, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan announced a plan that will allow first-time buyers qualifying for the $8,000 tax credit and obtaining an FHA loan to use the funds at closing for a down payment and other costs.

Parade of Homes Award Winners Announced
On September 18-19 the Home Builders Association played host to building and design professionals from across the country in town to judge the best in Kansas City new home construction and design. The experts spent the weekend touring, critiquing and grading the homes entered in this year's Pick of the Parade and Distinctive Plan & Design contests.
