HBA Board Approves a Resolution Opposing Governor Brownback’s Tax Proposals

Kansas Governor Sam Brownback made his priorities clear through the release of his proposed tax proposal and one of his top priorities is to eliminate the mortgage interest deduction (MID) and the property tax deduction. The proposal is now in the form of legislation making its way through the Kansas legislature. If approved this legislation will have a direct adverse impact the housing industry. In response HBA Board of Directors has taken a formal position against this legislation. Through a unanimous vote at a special meeting called to address this issue the Directors approved a formal resolution in opposition to the elimination of the mortgage interest deduction and state and local tax deductions.
