Kansas Area Council Lunch: Solar – the Alternative Energy

Housing Finishes 2011 with 6 Percent Gain Over 2010
Multi-family housing units helped boost the overall residential permit statistics to higher territory in 2011 according to the Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City’s (HBA) monthly Residential Building Permit Statistics report. The year ended on an up note with 2,901 compared to 2,724 in 2010, but still below the total in 2009 of 3,652. (more…)
HBA Foundation Fund Makes Grants
The advisory board for the HBA Foundation Fund approved the following 2011 grants based on requests from the Board of Directors.

Buzz Dulaney, HBA Foundation Fund Trustee, presents grant to Michael Snodgrass, Builders Development Corporation
- $2,000 to Pittsburg State University, Emporia, KS (Construction School)
- $3,000 to Joplin, MO Rebuilding Effort
- $10,000 to Builders Development Corporation
The Home Builders Foundation Fund of Greater Kansas City was formed in 2002 as the charitable arm of the Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City. It is supported through contributions from HBA members and others. The Fund is dedicated to advancing a range of charitable, educational and community causes that help address issues of housing affordability, job training, declining neighborhoods and related matters.
Government Affairs Establishes Legislative Agendas
With Kansas and Missouri state legislators returning to work this month, the HBA Government Affairs Committee

Steven Cowen, Staff Vice President for Government Affairs, and Mike Brown, Government Affairs Committee Chair
approved their 2012 legislative agendas. The Government Affairs Committee is comprised of 17 members and chaired by Mike Brown, Brown Midwest. Charged with recommending policy positions and addressing government affairs issues facing the home building industry, the committee meets monthly during the legislative session. (more…)

Missouri South Area Council Luncheon
Tuesday, January 10, 11:30 a.m. see David “Safety Dave” Redlin, Progressive Environmental & Safety, who will outline many OSHA safety issues, at Garozzo’s in Lee’s Summit. He will highlight educational requirements, discuss the most common safety hazards and violations, and help prepare builders, subcontractors and others from across the industry on what to expect from OSHA in the year to come at the first Area Council lunch of the new year. Signs of Optimism Returning to New Housing
Some optimism is making its way back into new housing according to the National Association of Home Builders as it measures homebuilder confidence. For the third consecutive month the NAHB/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index rose despite tough loan requirements holding down sales. Read more.
