That Congress Built
Congressman Dennis Moore
joined with members of the Home Builders
Association of Greater Kansas City (HBA)
Saturday to help build a Habitat for Humanity
home in Kansas City, Kan. The project
is part of a program called "Houses
That Congress Built" in which members
of the U.S. House of Representatives take
part in building a Habitat for Humanity
home in their district.
The home at 1919 N. 15th
Street is a joint project between Kaw
Valley Habitat for Humanity and the HBA's
Kansas Council. A total of 11 Habitat
for Humanity homes are under construction
in the nearby area. HBA member Concrete
Promotional Group has donated materials
for the concrete homes.
The Kansas Council is one
of three area councils of the HBA. Consisting
of home builders, remodelers and other
associated companies from Wyandotte, Johnson,
Leavenworth and Miami counties, the HBA
Kansas Council undertakes numerous volunteer
projects annually. Last year, the members
of the council contributed more than $50,000
in products and services to remodel an
Overland Park home for a family in need
of a home featuring accessible design.
Since its inception in 1998,
hundreds of homes have been built across
the country as part of the "Houses
That Congress Built" program. The
goal of the program is build an affordable
home for a low-income family in all 435
Congressional districts nationwide.
"We are proud to have
Congressman Moore join us in helping build
this home for Habitat for Humanity,"
said Sam Crawford, president of HBA member
Crawford & Kinder Inc. and project
coordinator the HBA Kansas Council. "The
HBA has a long a history of giving back
to the community, and this project is
simply the latest example of how home
builders care about housing in Kansas
City."
