Rebound Felt
in Single-Family Permit Activity
Signs
of a housing rebound are evident
by single-family permit activity
recorded during June. A total of
733 single-family permits were issued
during June compared to 711 single-family
permits issued during June 2000.

Year-to-date, single-family
permit activity figures total 4,238. By
comparison, 4,771 single-family permits
were issued through June 2000.
“The month’s permit result
is great news for the housing industry,”
said Tim Underwood, Executive Vice President
of the Home Builders Association of Greater
Kansas City. “At the end of May, permit
activity for the year was 14 percent behind
figures recorded during the first months
of last year. It’s exciting to see that
we picked up some steam this month.” Permit
activity during the first six months of
2001 is 11 percent behind figures during
the same period in 2000.
Olathe remains the top-permitting
city through May with 683 single-family
permits issued. Ranking second in the
number of single-family permits issued
for the year-to-date is Kansas City, Mo.,
with 568. Overland Park and Lee’s Summit
are the third and fourth top-permitting
cities with 430 and 407 single-family
permits issued respectively.
Rounding out the top permitting
cities for the year-to-date are Shawnee,
264; Blue Springs, 169; Lenexa, 155; Independence,
137; Raymore, 128; and Platte County,
114.
